NH Reforma Centro

2016 Mexico City, Mexico

The headquarters of the new NH hotel is a 19-story tower located on Insurgentes, a major avenue in Mexico City. The exposed steel structure is modulated to reflect its interior use. The façade is composed of a steel grid; each cell corresponds to a room whose background is completely transparent, which provides unparalleled views of the city. The project emphasizes the relationships between aesthetics and maximum functional and constructive efficiency. The earthquake-resistant structure uses lateral shock absorbers to absorb telluric energy. It is divided into three structural sections whose weight gradually diminishes to achieve the greatest efficiency in the overall weight of the tower. Large retail premises occupy the lower floors.

The tower’s form was created by maximizing the spatial, structural, and technical efficiency, and by paying close attention to the hotel’s required quality: a single gesture that resolves the structure, the façade, and the program of the building.
