General Zuazua 42 proposes the renovation of an existing house through its structure, patios, and the elements that have defined its character. The intervention seeks to update the residence, improve its functionality, and establish new relationships between the interior spaces, vegetation, and natural light.
Located in San Miguel Chapultepec, within a residential-scale urban context defined by tree-lined streets, the house is organized around voids, patios, and terraces that extend everyday life toward the exterior. The project preserves the garden areas, the interior helical staircase, and the chimney as significant elements of the original house, while removing added components that limited spatial clarity and continuity between levels.
The new intervention reorganizes the program through a more open and flexible layout, incorporating an independent loft, new terraces, and exterior circulation areas that expand the possibilities of use. The materiality combines light-colored walls, lightweight structures, wood, and vegetation, establishing a balanced relationship between the existing and the new.
